English, Reading and Phonics
We place central importance on the teaching of reading as we believe basic skills in Literacy and Numeracy underpin our children’s ability to make sense of the world. Early reading and writing skills, as well as phonics, are taught through the ‘Read Write Inc’ programmes throughout Key Stage 1. As a school, we aim to enthuse and develop children as readers and offer reading materials from a number of well-known schemes as well as wider reading books, magazines and newspapers.
Our school has also launched Accelerated Reader. This program allows children to choose books at their own level and then take an online quiz for each book they read, developing comprehension skills as well as motivation to read independently.
